A little more about the orphanage day...

The meal came in about 10 or more courses and each new dish was placed on a giant lazy susan in the middle of the table.  There were beans with goose meat, stewed goose, spicy noodles with tofu, noodles with lamb, some kind of fish dish, greens and broth, rice, stewed hot peppers, and a lot of other dishes.  Jiangxi province is known for spicy food and the food was spicy, but good.  I would not ordinarily try goose and lamb, but when in Rome... (or China).  Our hosts were lovely and kept refilling our drinks with Sprite (funny to me that they thought we needed a Coke product! (and they don't seem to have diet drinks here).  They also served Justin some "very strong liquor" for the repeated toasts.  Our guide told him to "be careful" about the "very strong liquor."  He only had one glass.  Everyone eats with chopsticks and then sticks his or her chopsticks right into the serving dishes as they pass by on the lazy susan.  Quite an experience, but very generous and nice of them to serve us.  And, this was the first time we've eaten somewhere other than the hotel.  Unlike the next city we will go to (Guangzhou), Nanchang is not a very touristy place.  We've ordered room service noodles or dumplings or something similar most nights.  We will be ready for the Papa Johns that I've seen so many people eating at in their blog posts from Guangzhou! :)

Also - as you can see below, there are no car seats here.  You just hold the children (also no streetlights or police on the roads, etc... People just honk their way through and come within what seems like centimeters of other cars in order to pass).  Emily did well in the car.  I do worry about when we have to put her in a car seat to leave the airport at home though.  People better brace for the screams!
